The ABC’s of Becoming a Christian

This week we have been celebrating Vacation Bible School with over 900 children and adult leaders … before the week is out we may see over 1000. WOW! This year’s curriculum is “Outrigger’s Island” – sharing God’s Unshakeable Truth. It has been a great week of confirming and affirming the truths of scripture with our children. To help the home lay a foundation, God has given us His Word to direct and instruct us for life.
I can remember staying up late every Christmas Eve, when my boys were younger, to put together their toys. For some reason I could never learn to take the time to FIRST read the instructions … oh no … I would just dive in by organizing all the parts and then proceed to put the toy together. The result was always the same. I would get to the end and find out that in order for everything to come together like it should, there was a specific order in which the toy was to be put together. I had missed a step or put a piece together too soon. So, I would then need to take apart what I had done and do it all over again – the correct way – by following the directions.
God’s Word is our instruction for LIFE! Before we dive i
nto life head first, we all need to learn to take the time to read the instructions and follow the directions, or we’ll end up putting life together out of order or just producing a great BIG mess.
Today I had the joy of celebrating with our children, during the VBS worship service, by presenting the ABC’s of becoming a Christian … what are they?
A – ADMIT that you are a sinner, need to repent of your sin, and trust in Jesus. The Bible says that we all have sinned and come short of God’s glory. That doesn’t leave anyone out. No matter who you are we all stand at the same place before God — guilty of sin.
B – BELIEVE that Jesus is God’s son and paid the price for sin of all mankind on the cross over 2,000 years ago and you must put your faith in Him and turn from self and sin through repentance. Repentance is not just feeling sorry for disobeying God’s instructions, but to truly desire to turn from self and sin and never to return.
C – CONFESS to others that your life belongs to Jesus and He is your Master and Lord. The scriptures give us a great picture and ordinance to follow to profess our faith in Jesus … it’s called baptism. Our fellowship has the joy of most weeks seeing people walk into the waters of baptism confessing their faith in Jesus and acknowledging their heart of repentance. We are buried with Christ in baptism and raised to walk in newness of life.
ADMIT – BELIEVE – CONFESS
Are these Biblical terms a reality in your life? If not please feel free to drop me an email or come by and see us at HHBC soon. We would love to help you take next spiritual steps to true Freedom in Christ.
